About Team Maya :)

Hi everybody! We are Team Maya, a team made up of 20 trainee teachers from the National Institute of Education (NIE) who will be helping children in Sikkim, India through December 2007. This expedition follows two previous teams, Team Asha and Team Kushi, who were also from NIE. Team Maya is supported by the National Youth Council (NYC) and is recognised as a Youth Expedition Project (YEP).

We will be working with Padma Odzer Choeling School (POC) to improve the physical conditions of the school, while conducting courses in English, Science, Mathematics, Art and Physical Education. POC educates nearly 300 children from all over Sikkim. The student body is composed of orphans or children from extremely poor families. As such, many have to walk long distances to get to school, and lack suitable clothing and stationary.

These objectives require funding and as a voluntary student group, we would like to appeal for your support through the sales of T-shirts and postcards designed and photographed by our fellow team-mates. Your support will certainly go a long way in improving the lives of the students of POC by providing them with an education they deserve. :)
